Wild Women

Wild Women

Every Saturday I volunteer at a convalescent home in Glendale, California. The first Saturday I volunteered there, I saw the elderly just sitting around, wondering what type of meal they will have for dinner or lunch. I felt the urge to create a club that was designated for the elderly who wanted to interact rather than sitting down and coloring one of his/her favorite cartoon hero characters, as a child. I designed the Wild Women’s Reading Club. Here I would be reading one of the most romantic novels written by Daniel Steel that would make the women aw when we read a romantic scene. Then suddenly they would evoke their wonderful love lives when they were younger in the 20th century. Once finishing a chapter, I would go around to each woman or man asking them questions from the book. We had a discussion, a discussion that not only benefited me but also benefited them by practicing their skills of recalling what they remembered from the book. While, the discussion I look up at the elderly eagerly discussing the book it was as I have awoken them from a dreadful dream but as soon as I leave they reluctantly have to go back to reality. This has inspired me to do great things in my life and this is one of the greatest contributions at any convalescent home.
